German auto supplier Schaeffler said on Nov. 3 that it will cut a net 3,460 positions in Europe, about 2,660 of them in Germany, and close five sites, including two German plants that make combustion-engine parts. It expects one-time costs of about €480 million and yearly savings of about €300 million by 2030.

Schaeffler says new jobs in growth areas will offset at least part of the cuts, but gave no number. COO Jochen Schröder said those opportunities lie "particularly in the areas of humanoid robotics and defense." Schaeffler sells actuators and other parts to robot makers and says its humanoid order intake reached about €400 million as of Oct. 20.

Why it matters

Those are orders, not revenue, and Humanoids Daily notes robotics made up less than 1% of group sales in 2025. Schaeffler hasn't said how many robotics jobs it will add, or when.
