Tesla accused of selling FSD that most South Korean Teslas can't legally use

South Korean advocacy group Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty plans to complain to the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) on Thursday accusing Tesla Korea of deceptive marketing, Reuters reports. The group says Tesla sold Full Self-Driving (Supervised) for a lump sum of 9.043 million won ($6,726) to buyers whose cars can't legally use it.

Tesla Korea's country manager told parliament in October that FSD works only on US-built cars, about 20% of Teslas registered there. Tesla's own data shows 99% of new Teslas sold in Korea last year, mostly China-built, couldn't legally use it. Tesla applied for certification only two weeks after that Oct. 8 hearing.

The group wants a temporary cease-and-desist order, fines and a referral to investigators. A KFTC official said the agency opened a probe into Tesla's FSD advertising earlier this year. Tesla didn't respond to Reuters. FSD needs constant human supervision; it isn't autonomous.
