ANYbotics starts shipping a robot dog built for explosive plants

Swiss company ANYbotics has started delivering ANYmal X, a four-legged inspection robot built to work in explosive atmospheres at oil, gas and chemical plants, The Robot Report reported on Oct. 27, 2026. ANYbotics calls it the world's first legged inspection robot for those zones, where every device must be certified not to ignite flammable gas. The company says ANYmal X meets the ATEX standard in Europe and IECEx globally, with its computer sealed in nitrogen-filled chambers and flameproof casings on all 12 leg motors and the battery. It runs inspections autonomously, using thermal, visual, acoustic and gas sensors to spot leaks, overheating and wear. ANYbotics says BP, Shell, Equinor, BASF and others have tested it since 2023.
Why it matters
Today, people still walk those areas with protective gear, gas detectors and permits.
