Saab announced the Combat Boat 90 Capability X (CB90 CX) on Nov. 2. It is a larger version of the CB90 assault craft, which Saab says serves in nine navies, and Saab says it is designed to run with or without a crew using its Autonomous Ocean Core software.

Saab is offering three configurations: surveillance with a Giraffe 1X radar, anti-ship strike, and short-range air defence with an anti-aircraft autocannon. Sweden is the launch customer and production is under way; Naval News reports the first boat is in final acceptance trials.

How uncrewed is it?

Saab's Anders Hellman said at an Oct. 30 media briefing, as reported by Naval News, that every CX is prepared for uncrewed operation from the start, controlled from a remote station or through AI functions, while people stay in the decision-making process. The announcement doesn't say how much of a mission the boat can carry out on its own.
